Happy weekend, happy JUNE!
New summer-ready makeup from Merit and Glossier, #tenniscore nails, pretty in pink homewares, and more.
Happy Friday, and ALMOST JUNE!
I hope you’ve had a good week. We have family coming this weekend, so it’s currently all hands on the panic-cleaning deck, and I’m really hoping the sunshine stays, so we can sit outside (things took a distinctly February-ish turn here earlier this week, but summer’s back today!).
I want to start by saying a huge thank you for all the kindest of responses to the new look-newsletter. It means so much, and I’m so excited for all that’s to come. This weekend’s edition is free for all to read, being the first weekend of the month—I hope you enjoy! Get more of the same, every weekend—with posts sprinkled throughout the week—by joining us as a free or paid subscriber this summer.

I’m thrilled and super-honoured that the wonderful invited me to chat all things beauty with her today at her fabulous Substack, . It’s such a thrill, because a) Amelia’s newsletter—which is so much more than that–is beautiful!, and b) it was a lovely opportunity to talk joy-boosting, feel-good beauty and wellness with her. I discovered Amelia’s writing here earlier this year, and her Substack instantly became one of my favourites. If you haven’t yet, earmark it for a weekend browse! Here’s a link to today’s edition.
Just recently, Amelia wrote No One Ever Said You Must Wear Tight Pants: and 49 other lessons learned during my half-century on earth!, that is just begging for Baz to give it the Wear Sunscreen treatment. Speaking of which (and how’s this for a transition), Merit has created a buzz this week with the launch of its new tinted moisturiser with sunscreen.
I haven’t had a chance to put The Uniform SPF 50 to the test yet, but I will, and it looks fab—it’s Merit, so you know the texture is going to be fresh and natural-looking. And that the brand has managed to incorporate such a serious, mineral-based SPF in a sheer tinted moisturiser is impressive.

(For New York friends, there’s a Merit/Brook’s Brothers pop-up happening in Manhattan this weekend—at 151 Elizabeth Street, in Nolita—from today, through Sunday).
Bonjour, France!
In other make up news, for French friends, Glossier is launching at Sephora France on June 13 (via the app), and few days later in stores. Meanwhile, it’s just dropped a new lip oil, and if you’ve been reading for a while, you’ll know how much I love a lip oil. Give me all the lip oils, glosses and tinted balms. please and merci.
Lip Glaze comes in six, sheer, minty, non-sticky shades, including Icy (clear).
YUM!

Ahead of the game

It’s almost time. The French Open is now in full swing, and Wimbledon is just around the corner.
Growing up in south west London, one of the highlights of June was my brother having a student job working in the players’ restaurant at Wimbledon. I sent him off each morning with my blue and white Holly Hobbie autograph book—complete with lock and key— in hopes he’d come home with a famous squiggle or two. My most treasured were by John Mac himself and TRACEY AUSTIN.
Game, set and matching nails
While supermarket displays of Pimm’s and strawberries and cream will be everywhere soon, beauty brands are getting in on the #tenniscore action, including Olive & June— I WISH they’d cross the pond!—who are serving up polishes with names like Aced It, as part of the Big Play Summer 2025 collection.
Slazenger-neon nails, anyone?

I actually think this could be really fun in a few weeks, clutching a Pimm’s or thwacking a Swingball! What do you think? Am I mad?
Speaking of getting outside, I love this post by on the little details that make even the smallest outdoor space feel welcoming, and—as my mother-in-law has always said–like another room. Anna’s got some lovely picks, from striped seating cubes and cushions (give me all the cushions! I might have a problem), to seating. This year, for the first time, I’ve bought an outdoor mat for the patio and it’s been an instant, game-changing refresher. (This one. It’s madly cheap, and doesn’t look it.)
Speaking of homes, I posted a photo to Notes of a limited edition Le Creuset dish that stopped in me in my tracks in John Lewis this week. Here’s a better pic from the website.

Yours for a sweet £295. But! This M&S serving bowl (at £15) offers the same pink, summery vibes (yay!). It’s a decent size too (big enough to use as a fruit bowl).

Oooh, and while you’re in M&S: Only 5 Ingredients Dark Chocolate and Coconut Date Bar. That is all.
(OK: think healthy Bounty. Delish.)
Good to glow
Last but not least, a lovely new gradual tanning discovery: *Espa’s Pro-Glow Gradual Tan Body Cream is a serious contender to my beloved Gatineau. I will say it’s the best-smelling self-tanner I’ve ever used—it actually smells spa-like.
I’d describe the texture as a light cream, more lotion-like (it takes a second or two to absorb, a little longer than the Gatineau, and then it’s totally non-sticky and you can get dressed and on with the day). The smell is down to a blend of floral essential oils, and sweet orange water. Results-wise, you get a gentle, golden glow within a few hours, after the first application.
Wishing you a beautiful weekend!

A healthy Bounty is what I’ve waited about 40 years for …. :-)
Omg, that Le Creuset is sooooo pretty!!! 😍
